Our Animal Adoption Center:

We love animals,
just as you do!

The Progressive Animal Welfare Society, now better known as PAWS Animal Adoption Center, was originally formed by a small group of concerned animal lovers in 1980. Our goal is to establish a dog and cat adoption center that does not utilize euthanasia. In addition to wanting to provide a no-kill alternative, years ago, PAWS’ founders realized the importance of providing spay/neuter and medical treatment for all animals in their care.

Why Choose This Animal Adoption Center?

PAWS is the last chance for many of the animals.

Imagine you are a pet dropped off at the local pound in a rural area.

You might be young, and the owners just didn’t want the whole litter, so here you are.  Maybe you lived with a family for most of your life, but now they have fallen on hard times, so they dispose of you at the pound.  You don’t understand, because you’ve done nothing wrong.  The animals at the shelter are either howling or cowered in a corner, shaking.  Their fear and confusion inoculates you with fear and dread.  Although you don’t know what’s going on, you know things are amiss and you are afraid.

This was the reality experienced by most of the lovable, adoptable dogs and cats at PAWS.  Over 95% of them have been pulled from traditional shelters, and, although they were highly adoptable, were at extreme risk of being euthanized.

Many have never had veterinary attention.  PAWS makes sure they get what they need. Once they are healthy, these pets are adopted into loving, forever homes.

Phoebe wasn’t the dog I was looking for. But she was the dog I needed, just like she needed me. when you come to PAWS, take your time. Be open to a dog outside the box. Be patient.

Chilly Willy is precious, and we are so grateful to PAWS and Monroe Family Pet Hospital for nursing him back from the brink of death. You wouldn't know he ever went through something so traumatic from the way he is now!
