Animal Bequests Are Important

They’ve given you a lifetime of love – who will love and care for them when you can’t?

Declining health and death are uncomfortable facts of life. In spite of this, responsible spouses and parents make plans to take care of their loved ones’ needs when they can’t be there.

Have you thought about who would care for your pets if you suddenly passed or had to go into a nursing home?

Nearly every week, at least one person will stop in at PAWS because a relative just experienced this, and no prior arrangements have been made for the relative’s pets. Being no-kill, PAWS is usually full, so we cannot help with these spontaneous requests.

Establishing Animal Bequests is a PROACTIVE Solution:

Understanding Animal Bequests

Simply put, an Animal Bequest is pre-arranging for your pet’s care in the event you are no longer able to care for them.

You’ll want to work with a shelter that will work to permanently rehome your precious pet into a loving family. This involves meeting with your local no-kill adoption center to learn the specifics of their processes. Shelters vary by the minimum financial commitment they require to take animals in.

Arrangements are finalized by making these arrangements and wishes known in your will. Since many animal rescue organizations have similar names, it’s important to provide your attorney with the organization’s full legal name, address, and EIN number.
