Grace – a tale of survival and love

Grace

Meet Grace! Grace has been with us at PAWS since late July and we are working to place her in a forever home. She is a 7-9 year old Great Pyrenees mix. Currently, battling an ear infection that we are working to treat. Grace is a very sweet girl who loves to take naps and take any attention you will give her.

Grace came to us from another animal shelter. PAWS took her in when we were emailed about her sad situation. We do not know much about her past, but she is lucky to have made it to the loving staff and loyal volunteers at PAWS. She seems to have had some skin complications, where the hair is now growing bad, as well as the nasty ear infection. We found these out after she arrived at our facility.

Though we have little information on her past, we do know that her previous owners kept her in a small yard, which she seems to have spent most of her life. The old owners sold their home, and when the new owners moved in, she had been left in the yard. The rescuers believed she was never really cared for and this ear infection has going on for a long time.

Potential adopters will need to help her strengthen her muscles for her unsteady hips and joints, keep her moving, and give her endless love. Currently, to aid in this, she is on a joint supplement called Dasuquin, Vetprofen to avoid pain in her joints, Posatex until the ear infection is cured, and fish oil to improve her coat. She impresses us with her improvement every day, but we feel that some one-on-one time with a family will help her progress in a positive way even quicker.

Grace has been to our vet multiple times during her stay here at PAWS.  She has tested negative for heartworms and a heart murmur which is great. She has had her hips and knees x-rayed and she does have some arthritis (any joint supplement, not necessary Dasuquin, is a necessity). With some work on her muscles, she will start to move even better.

Grace will also need some work with potty training. She does her best to potty outside, but it is necessary that her potential foster be able to get her outside at least every few hours. It will be like training a puppy from the beginning. We would be happy to supply you with puppy pads at the beginning if need be. She would also enjoy daily short walks and possibly a fenced yard to wander in. A home without steps that she must go up and down is a plus!

If you or someone you know would be interested in adopting Grace or would like any additional information, we would be happy to speak with you. Please email Kathy, our operations manager, at kathyteller@aol.com or call PAWS Adoption Center at (513) 539-7297. Thanks!
