How to help pets afraid of fireworks

Fireworks can be scary, here are some suggestions to help your pets through it:

  • Make sure your dog is wearing current ID tags at all times.
  • Do not leave pets unattended, even in a secure yard.
  • Keep your dog indoors during fireworks.
  • Confine them to a quiet room or provide access to a closet, bed, bathroom, or other safe place with plenty of artificial light to mask the flashes from fireworks.
  • Playing music or turning on the TV can help to drown out the fireworks.
  • Offer them a favorite treat, such as a peanut butter stuffed toy.
  • Playing games or exercising can also help distract them from the noise.
  • Should your dog get out, have clear, up to date photos of your pet.
